Review

The Godfather II is a third-person action game for Windows. The game shows a good deal of improvement over the last Godfather game, both graphically and story-wise. In the game you play the role of Dominic, a mob worker who sees the opportunity to become a mob boss. The game has scenes from both Godfather movies. There are characters common to those movies as well. Graphically, the game has seen improvements in the character models and the open world rendering. Also, cars now look better and dynamic animations, like explosions, also look much better. In terms of gameplay, the game still leaves a lot to be desired. The computer AI (mostly in your friends) has no intelligence in it. Your friends do all kinds of stupid stuff. The story is very well written. There are rich dialogs and sharp twists. The single player campaign should prove long and sort of challenging though. The multiplayer mode is nothing to call home about. The multiplayer maps are rather buggy and the action is not really intense. There is a new addition to the game, the strategic camera mode, which allows you to see the action from an RTS perspective. It is a nice addition to the saga.
Advantages
  • Better graphics than Godfather 1.
  • Good story.
Disadvantages
  • Multiplayer is plagued with bugs.
  • Shooting mechanism is still not as refined as one would hope.
